The Middle East in 4x4
In one program, TLB brings together the unusual and traditional. The tour begins in Lebanon; with the magnificent castle of Beiteddine and the quaint city of Sidon… We travel from the beautiful Bekaa Valley and the famous Roman temples of Baalbeck – tasting some of the Lebanese wines- , up Mt Lebanon to Qornet Sawda, the highest peak in the Middle East (3087 m.), back down to sea-level to visit the Phoenician port city of Byblos. In Syria, time is spent discovering the desert in the western and central part of the country, often camping there for the night. We dive into history visiting majestic Palmyra, the queen of the desert; beautiful Damascus, with its charming alleys in the old city, the lively souk and the impressive Omayyad Mosque; the time of the Crusaders with the Krak des Chevaliers, and Bosra’s well preserved Roman theatre and Arab fortifications. Then on to Jordan, with a first stop at Jerash, “floating” in the Dead Sea; then the discovery of the “Pink City” of Petra, Kerak, down to the Red Sea at Aqaba, the desert of Wadi Rum where we camp for the night. We travel back to Lebanon and wander in the Qadisha Valley and stay in one of the monasteries, the Cedars Reserve and take some relaxation on Byblos’ attractive beach. We end the tour in vibrant Beirut, the bridge between Orient and Occident
