| Travelling through the Levant means a journey through history and time, from the Mediteteranean coast to the Red Sea. Lebanon is the bridge between Orient and Occident and will charm with its mix of influences. The trip starts in Beirut, the modern capital, with an oriental flavour in its building style and Mediteranean mentality. The little country offers a great coast where Phoenician cities are lined up next to each other; it is home to the magnicificent temples of Baalbeck in the Bekaa Valley, also known for its many vineyards; and the mountains with the Qadisha or Holy Valley and the Cedar tree, the national symbol! The Krak des Chevaliers in Syria is the grandest Crusader fort from which we travel north to visit the Basilica of St Simeon, close to Aleppo, with its vibrants souk and charming Christian quarters. We cross the desert to the borders of the Euphrates where we camp and travel to Palmyra, the queen of the desert. Damascus, the Syrian capital, has a lot of treasures like the Umayyad Mosque and the Azem Palace. Further south, we cross into Jordan via the Roman site of Jerash. Floating in the Dead Sea is a memorable experience and the King’s Highway to Petra offers great views and landscapes. The 2-day visit of the red-rose Petra is one of the highlights of the trip and will leave you deeply empressed. After some relaxation at the Red Sea in Aqaba, to Wadi Rum; the desert we will discover by 4x4 vehicles.
